As much as we would like to think we can, we can’t do everything ourselves. We need the support and love from people around us to stay motivated and on track. Research shows thatpositive energy is contagious, so whether you’re building a network or planning to go to a fun event, it’s always important to have a community you value around you regularly. As you move through it, try to enjoy the journey; hopefully one day, you’ll find that the nagging feeling of incompleteness that is so typical of perfectionism has left you. Perhaps because yoga can help us to get back in touch with our own bodies and regain a sense of pleasure from it, the practice also helps to quell the voice of our inner critic and boost feelings of self-love.

When we are mindful, or in a state of non-judgmental awareness, we are unable to get lost in the process of over-identification or giving in to our inner critic, also known as negative thoughts. In particular, I think of a friend of mine who is incredibly accomplished and has battled with poor self-esteem (or perhaps it’s a lack of self-compassion) for ever. Self-compassionate participants were less likely to feel humiliated or incompetent, or to take it too personally. Those with both high and low self-esteem were equally likely to have thoughts like, “I’m such a loser” or “I wish I could die.” Once again, high self-esteem tends to come up empty-handed when the chips are down. Participants’ self-compassion levels, but not their self-esteem levels, predicted how much anxiety they felt. In other words, self-compassionate students reported feeling less self-conscious and nervous than those who lacked self-compassion, presumably because they felt okay admitting and talking about their weak points.
Self-care is anything you do that benefits your physical, mental, or emotional health. To help you combat cognitive errors in your daily life, we created the journal in collaboration with a Post Doctoral Fellow specializing in this area of research at the University of British Columbia. You’ll be guided through three clear sections, learning and growing as you go.

With self-love, we instill healthy habits and live in accordance with our bliss and truth, along with our values, morals, and beliefs. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. By loving and accepting yourself 100%, nothing in the world will stop you from achieving your goals. People who don’t love themselves the way they are, focus on their good traits and boast so that the people around them can agree with them. They try to get anyone who is listening to believe in what they are saying even if deep down they don’t believe in it themselves. Anytime you see a boastful person, you see someone who doubts himself or herself.

Anytime you feel drained, tired or hating yourself, you are turning your thoughts and emotions against yourself. And this will not only make your life difficult but also that of your loved ones. While you might want to do things that feel good or exciting, practicing self-love means choosing to do the things that keep you focused on your goals and moving towards a healthier, happier life. This can be especially true for people struggling with addiction.

Use these four steps below to aid you along your self-love journey. Daily Ritual – Creating a self love ritual that you give to yourself every single day is extremely powerful. When was the last time you took a moment to truly honour and appreciate who you are? You can use the above four tips in order to create this. My ritual usually begins with moving my body, self love yoga, gratitude, journalling, positive affirmations and meditation to create a kind, supportive mind.
